Get inspired by 6 modular wardrobes

After this many hours of browsing ikea.com, you’re definitely ready to speak Swedish. You’d even guess ‘Pax’ is Swedish for wardrobe. You’re not wrong… but this isn’t the only wardrobe option they have. With a touch of creative thinking, you can also use Method cabinet frames to create storage space in the bedroom or hallway. Varying in height and width, they encourage us to get creative and increase our storage options - by a long way. Here are six examples to get you started!

Mid-height

This piece of furniture, designed by Norwegian architects Kraakvik & D'Orazio, really finds its charm in its mid-height storage units that run the length of the wall. Whilst taller than a sideboard, it’s lower than a ‘regular’ wardrobe, so it does the job of both: the modules hide shelves and drawers, whilst leaving space on top for treasures you’ve collected over the years. You can work with Method cabinet frames for a similar result. The 140cm-high kitchen unit has been transformed here by adding smooth doors. All you need to do is put in the shelves and rails - and there you have it, a custom-made wardrobe!

Two-tone

You’re in two minds between Red 03 - Blush and Beige 05 - Ivoire. But who’s stopping you from choosing both? Pax modules can only fit one door per cabinet frame. Not an issue when it comes to Method modules! Originally designed for the kitchen, they can also be combined to create a wardrobe that fulfils all your colour-combining desires - much like this made-to-measure room designed by interior designer Emilie Pellicer.

Getting into the nook

Say goodbye to plain walls filled with cupboards! All you need are a few carefully-planned details to produce a piece of furniture for your home that’s not only practical, but also a feast for the eyes. This custom-made design project by Laura Narvaez is a perfect example. The alcove is crafted from the finishing panels, adding some character to the overall piece. It’s a way to highlight your favourite ornaments, whilst hiding the top and bottom of the cabinet frames. Finally, the dual-material fronts bring light to the full-height module. In our opinion, it’s really got everything going for it.

Arch after arch

We have a lot to thank arch-shaped wardrobes for: creating alcoves, adapting to awkward corners and making the most of ceiling height. The best way to create them? You guessed it: Method wall-mounted kitchen cabinet frames. This layout was produced at Plum Living Studio, combining a wardrobe, high and low storage units and a desk. This bold and beautiful arch is fit for both the bedroom and the hallway.

Within reach of (small) hands

Having kids really taught you the meaning of compromise. Their rooms are no exception! Unlike your wardrobe, theirs should have shelves, necessary for all the piles of clothes, baskets for changes of pyjamas, and - most importantly - storage within reach (and to bring some order to the chaos!). The series of alcoves found below the cabinet frames do the job perfectly, adding to the fresh, playful colour scheme.
